For South African Journal of Childhood Education (SAJCE), 2022 has been a milestone year. The journal published Volume 12 with a rich array of articles about not only the education of young children, but the lives of their caregivers in the early pre-school years. The special collection of articles, for which Prof. Giulietta Harrisson has written an editorial, was the outcome of the South African Research Association for Early Childhood Education (SARAECE) conference of 2021. The collection showed that practitioners in pre-school care are as important as their early grades teachers in laying the foundations of formal education.
There has been a slight shift in the typical articles in the regular collection as well. As editor, I have previously requested more manuscripts about learning and development – about the children we educate. We have been publishing an abundance of articles through the years about teachers – and specifically also pre-service teachers – who may be regarded as a ‘convenience sample’ for university researchers. I continue to wish for more research about learners and learning in which children are the research samples of choice.
The editorial office is grateful for all your contributions as authors, but especially as reviewers; we cannot thank our patient reviewers enough for their work – one of the most unselfish briefs in the academy.
